What this version does
Browsing on the system's WebKit with the Magic Bar, tabs, tmux-style panes, a native terminal pane, favorites with folders, built-in ad and tracker blocking, session restore and signed updates.
Coming later
Windows and Linux
Monok is macOS only for now. Windows and Linux builds may come later; there is no date and no download for them.
Installing the preview
- Open the
.dmgand drag Monok to Applications. - Open it from Applications. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it after the usual "downloaded from the internet" question.
- Press ⌘L and type. New versions show an Update button in the top bar; nothing installs itself.
- To remove it, drag the app to the Trash. Your data lives in
~/Library/Application Support/Monok.
What to expect
Pages render with the system's WebKit, so sites work as they do in Safari. The numbers on the home page are measured on this build. It is an early preview: not there yet are windows and linux, extensions, its own developer tools (webkit's web inspector is not wired up yet), sync between macs, picture in picture and per-site media controls, and a licence key field (the preview is free). The blog explains why v1 runs on WebKit.
